May 20th, 1943; Matroos der Eerste Klasse (Able-bodied Seaman), Hr. Ms. Van Nes, Koninklijke Marine
"Has as a sailor on board the destroyer "Van Nes", during air attacks from Japanese bombers and dive bombers, on February 16th, 1942 in the Java-Sea, which attacks endured during a period of over two hours in which the ship eventually received direct hists and immediately sunk, shown a good moral, perseverance, endurance and good notice of duty, especially during the many days on a rescue sloop during the rescue attempts."
