The
EDS-m was designed as a prototype for the later Fccpps hopper wagons.
The wagon was build with the chassis of an EDS hopper wagon and
specifically designed as a service wagon for the Dutch Railway Company
(NV. Nederlandse Spoorwegen, NS) for the depositing of ballast stones
in the maintenance and building of railway lines. To design the wagon
the Hoofdwerkplaats Amersfoort made a prototype which was built with
the base of an Talbot EDS hopper wagon. The experience with this
prototype was used to design the Fccpps series which followed.
The prototype EDS-m later was changed to Fccpps and at first was given
the number 954 8 000-1. Later the wagon was renumbered to 643 7 000-1.
With the private market setting in and NS losing its cargo and
maintenance divisions, the wagon changed to the newly formed Railpro
company and received the number 643 7 000-2 and is still in service.

Model:
Roco produced the 954 8 000-1 in Ho (1:87) as part of the set 44037.
The model actually is not of the prototype EDS-m/Fccpps but a version
of the production form of the Fccpps with the large NS logo.
