Turnbull, Tom Attwell
(1908 - December 9th, 1992)

May 12th, 1942; Lance Sergeant, 122nd Light Anti-Aircraft Battery
"Lance Sergeant Turnbull was commanding a Bofors Gun near Gabr er Rteui (Tobruk 444363) on November 24th when enemy tanks broke through. His gun was part of the A.A. Defence of 4th Armd. Bde B Echelon. He engaged the enemy tanks for two hours and fired more than 100 rounds and was only withdrawn when all his armour piercing ammunition was expended.
Several hist were observed. During the engagement Lance Sergeant Turnbull's detachment came under heavy fire and his tractor was hit and one of the gun crew killed but Lance Sergeant Turnbull continued to fire the gun. In column work with 7th. Support Group this Sergeant has again displayed great coolness in action  against dive bombing and machine gunning attacks."
