Clark, Frank Henry
(? - November 9th, 1944)
|
|
October 26th, 1944; Sergeant, 7th Field Company, Corps of Royal Engineers
"Sergeant Clark's example has been magnificent throughout the action
especially during the last few days. Although Headquarters Sergeant he
volunteered for every possible dangerous job. During the initial river
reconnaissance he swam teh river GARI and measured the gap. On the
first attempt on building CONGO assault Bailey bridge he returned to
the River after the company had left assisting in the collection of
wounded and removing vehicles under fire.
During the AMAZON assault Bailey bridge operation he worked from the
start to the finish of the operation continually under fire and greatly
assisted in completing the task. Early on 17th May, 1944 he was acting
as Platoon Sergeant of a platoon which was constructing a forward track
under fire. Two Bulldozer operators were killed and Sergeant Clark with
another soldier operated the Bulldozer under fire until 30 yards of
track were completed.
On the same morning his platoon officer was found to be missing and he
went back twice under fire in his efforts to find him. He has inspired
all ranks by his great courage and example.”
Received in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Italy.
